ZieherSmith is a contemporary art gallery based in Nashville, Tennessee. Founded in 2003, the gallery operated in New York City’s Chelsea art district from 2003-19. It expanded its presence to Nashville with regular pop-up programming from 2011-2024. ZieherSmith opened its permanent Nashville location near Music Row and the Gulch in 2025, named “Best New Gallery” by The Nashville Scene.
Pulitzer Prize winning art writer Jerry Saltz selected ZieherSmith as one of his top 25 new NYC galleries in New York Magazine, while Roberta Smith named the gallery a top Chelsea galleries in The New York Times, and Art in America including ZieherSmith in its annual listing of top 500 art galleries worldwide.
Over more than two decades, ZieherSmith has championed emerging and established contemporary artists and placed works in major public and private collections, including the Whitney Museum of American Art and The Metropolitan Museum of Art.
In addition to its exhibition program, ZieherSmith facilitates secondary-market sales and provides art advisory services for private, corporate, and institutional collections.
When ZieherSmith opened its doors earlier this year, my expectations were high. When Andrea and Scott Zieher lived in New York, their gallery was a long-running fixture in Chelsea, and their frequent trips back to Andrea’s hometown of Nashville often intersected with pop-up exhibitions that were both fun and relevant. Still, the Edgehill-area gallery space exceeded my expectations. The inaugural event was a blockbuster two-person exhibition of Nashville-based artists Raheleh Filsoofi and Vadis Turner, and it showed that locally curated and cultivated art shows in Nashville can be just as dynamic, thoughtful and meaningful as they would be in any city. ZieherSmith is home to The National Life, the gallery’s art concept shop, and is located in a storefront space in the AMEC building at 1207 King Hollands Ave in Nashville’s Edgehill neighborhood, just steps from the Gulch and Music Row.
Free parking is always available. Street parking can be found directly in front of the gallery, with an additional parking lot behind the building, accessible from 13th Ave S. ZieherSmith occupies the central storefront, adjacent to the AMEC chapel and headquarters.
