Anthony Miler: Not Titled

Sept 25 - Oct 31, 2026

Anthony Miler has used "Not Titled" to name his work for over a decade. Prompted by the knowledge that Picasso rarely titled his works, Miler, who began his creative life as a poet, cherishes words as much as charcoal, ink and oil paint. He recognizes the folly in pairing words to images that stake no conceptual claim, celebrating instead the life long act of being an artist.

We first presented Miler’s work in New York in a 2013 group show followed by a solo show of paintings in 2019. For his Nashville debut, we pay tribute to his dedication to the daily practice of drawing. This exhibition features 22 framed works on paper that showcase Miler's urgent, gestural approach to the margins of figuration, grounded in a mainline, fundamental understanding of abstraction.

Anthony Miler (b. 1982, Toledo, Ohio) lives and works in New York. He received his MFA from the City College of New York in 2008.
